With the increasing access and use of discovery services like EDS, why do we need Academic Search?

For institutions with large collections and significant access to publisher packages, the implementation and use of discovery reduces but does not erase the value of aggregator resources like Academic Search and Business Source. In conversations with partner libraries, we've learned that even though these institutions have access to a broad range of collections, 1st and 2nd year students still rely heavily on aggregator resources. However, smaller institutions without the same wealth of content are dependent on aggregators for providing content. When their students use EDS, for example, content being surfaced is largely from Academic Search and Business Source, since these two products make up the bulk of smaller libraries' collections.
